Product: Blackboard Learn
Bb Grader is an iPad app that allows teachers and instructors to review, provide feedback, and grade student assignments and portfolios for Blackboard Learn 9.1 Original Experience courses.
One of the features available in Bb Grader is inline grading – the ability to add text annotations within a document in the form of comments. Blackboard’s current service for inline grading is provided through Crocodoc. Box Inc. acquired Crocodoc in 2013 and has moved to discontinue this service and transition users to the New Box View API. The end-of-life date for the Crocodoc API is January 15, 2018.
How will the transition to New Box View affect inline grading in Bb Grader?
Due to the changes being implemented by Box Inc., once institutions have transitioned to the New Box View API, inline grading in the Bb Grader app will result in an error when accessing documents for the first time. Subsequent viewing will properly render the document. Users can work around this issue by closing and then reloading the Bb Grader app. Simply double tap the home button, swipe on Bb Grader to force close it, re-open Bb Grader, and open the submission.
Inline grading capabilities can still be accessed via web Learn. Mobile inline grading capabilities are also scheduled for release in the Blackboard Instructor app in 1H 2018. Please note that clients must be on a supported Learn version to continue to use inline grading capabilities on Learn web after January 15, 2018 through the New Box View API. Find out more about supported Learn versions.
Will this change affect other Bb Grader functionality?
No, all other features in the Bb Grader app will continue to function as clients transition to Box. With Bb Grader, instructors can view class progress on assignments, grade individual and group submissions, provide audio and video feedback, and more. Please visit the Bb Grader help site to find out more about Bb Grader features and functionality.
When will inline grading be available in Blackboard Instructor?
We’re currently working on building out the first phase of grading workflows for Blackboard Instructor, which includes inline grading. Phase one of grading is scheduled for release in 1H 2018* and will allow instructors and graders to quickly review, grade and comment on student submitted assignments. Over time, we will also provide access to multimedia feedback, and offline grading capabilities in Blackboard Instructor. We will be hosting grading feedback sessions in the new year. Please up here for more information on feedback sessions and Blackboard Instructor updates and news.
Are you planning to remove Bb Grader from app stores?
In order to ensure that users continue to have access to mobile grading functionality, Bb Grader will not be removed from app stores until grading functionality is available in the Blackboard Instructor app, scheduled for 1H 2018*. Once grading is released to Blackboard Instructor, we will be removing the app from app stores and ending support. We will be following up at a later date with more information on end of support for Bb Grader.
