Description:
Students and instructor receive a Daily Notifications email for Group Assignment overdue in courses when one member submits on-time, before the Due Date. If corresponding "Always On" is selected only one of the student users appears to be getting the email (instructor gets it as well).

Ensure all users have selected Email me once a day under personal Notification Settings:
  • Activity StreamNotification Settings > Email Notification Settings
Select Default On for Assignment Past Due under the Email column
  • Administrator Panel > Notification Settings
  1. Log into Blackboard Learn as Instructor
  2. Enter a course > Click Create > Select Assignment
  3. Give it a name Name and accept all defaults including the Due Date (which usually is for the next day)
  4. Select Assignment Settings > Assigned Groups > Assign to Groups
  5. Click on action link next to first student name > Create a New Group > Name it > Save
  6. Add members to the just created group:
    • Click on action link next to second student name > select the just created group
  7. Save > Save > Select Visible to Students in the upper right-hand corner
  8. Log in as the first student liste
  9. Submit the assignment
  10. Wait until the Due Date expires and the corresponding Notifications emails are delivered

Observed Behavior:
Students and instructors receive a Daily Notifications email indicating that the Assignment is overdue.

Expected Behavior:
Students and instructors do not receive a Daily Notifications email indicating that the Assignment is overdue.

Symptoms:

Users receive a daily notification that the assignment is overdue.

Cause:

This is caused by a Learn bug where this behavior occurs when "Default On" is selected for "Assignment Past Due" under the Email column (Administrator Panel > Notification Settings).  If corresponding "Always On" is selected only one of the student users

Resolution/Workaround:

This issue is resolved in SaaS v3800.19.0 and in Learn 9.1 Q4 2020 (3900.0.0).
