Ultra Experience: Participants Lose Permissions when Moderator not in Ultra Session

Date Published: Jul 04,2019

CategoryProduct:Known Issues & Error Messages; Version:Ultra Experience
Article No.: 000047475
Product:
Blackboard Collaborate
Service Pack(s):
Ultra Experience
Issue Description:
If a Participant Role user in a Collaborate Ultra session joins the Session before a Moderator Role user joins, then Participant Role users will lose any audio, video, chat, or whiteboard permissions they initially had. Any Participant Role user that joins the session after the permissions have been removed will not have any audio, video, chat, or whiteboard permissions in the session. Alternatively if all Moderator Role users in a session leave the session, then any remaining Participant Role users will lose any audio, video, chat, or whiteboard permissions they previously had in the session.
Steps to Repeat:
Resolved in Collaborate Ultra 17.10

To replicate this issue have a Collaborate Ultra session that enables "Moderator supervise all private chats" in session settings or uses Collaborate Ultra via the Moodle plugin or Blackboard Collaborate "Original" building block with Ultra enabled in the course.
  1. Join the Collaborate Ultra session as a Participant.  Please note that you will need to be the first person to join the session.
  2. Note the permissions available to you such as Audio, Video or Chat.
  3. Wait for up to a minute.
If no Moderator Role user joins the session you will see a visual notification that any permissions you had have been removed.

Symptoms:

Participant Role users lose initially granted permissions when there is no Moderator Role user in the session.

Resolution/Workaround:

Resolved in Collaborate Ultra 17.10

To prevent Participant Role users from losing permissions the Moderator Role user should be the first to enter the session. If the Moderator Role User joins the session after Participant permissions have been removed the Moderator Role user can enable the Participant Permissions for the Live Session.

To enable Participant Permissions as a Moderator Role user
  1. Open the Collaborate Panel. The Purple tab at the bottom right side of the page.
  2. Click on the My Settings tab. The one with the Gear icon.
  3. Expand the Session Settings section.
  4. Enable Participant Permissions as necessary.

Once a permission has been enabled in the Session settings of the Live sessions all existing Participant Role users will immediately be granted that permission.
