Information:
To provide high quality sessions using Blackboard Collaborate, you need to set up your network so that Blackboard Collaborate can effectively communicate with our infrastructure hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS).
AWS Hosting Locations
Blackboard Collaborate is hosted in the one of the following AWS regions:
(US - Virginia): us-east-1
|
https://us.bbcollab.com
|
(Ireland): eu-west-1
|
https://eu.bbcollab.com
|
(Asia Pacific - Sydney): ap-southeast-2
|
https://au.bbcollab.com
|
(Canada - Montreal): ca-central-1
|
https://ca.bbcollab.com
|
Clients hosted in (Virginia): us-east-1 or (Montreal): ca-central-1 in the LAC region may launch sessions via our Brazil satellite service from South America (São Paulo) sa-east-1. Please contact support: https://behind.blackboard.com for more information.
Clients are generally hosted in the AWS region physically closest to their user base. If you are unsure where you are hosted, please contact support: https://behind.blackboard.com .
Setting up your network
- Make sure that Collaborate traffic has a short path to the internet
- Avoid proxies, packet inspection, protocol analyzers, VPN, and IP Security (IPsec) as they typically add an unacceptable level of latency.
Allow access
Collaborate needs full network access. If there are restrictions or filtering policies for users on your network, give network access to the following uniform resource identifiers (URIs) using port 443.
For web traffic, recordings, whiteboard, shared files, and API’s:
- https://*.blackboard.com
For Chime media traffic:
Set up outbound ports for media traffic
Update your firewalls to allow media traffic to flow to and from your institution.
- For WebRTC and Chime media traffic (audio and video), set up outbound UDP port 3478 and UDP ports 49152 through 65535.
- For web traffic and user authentication, use port 443.
Notes:
- These ports are allowed without any IP limitation
- Collaborate will communicate to the destination port received when the client makes its connection.
- Collaborate uses HTML5 Web Socket traffic for some control and signaling traffic.
- For WebRTC audio and video media traffic UDP 50000, TCP 3478, or TLS 443 can be used over TURN if UDP ports 49152 through 65535 are blocked.
- For Chime audio and video media traffic TCP 443 will be used if UDP 3478 is blocked.
Allowing access to IP addresses
The following IP addresses are for clients who need specific IPs to allow audio and video media traffic over UDP 50000, TCP 3478, or TLS 443. For example, using a split-tunnel VPN. If you do not have Collaborate traffic limited to 443 and need Collaborate to force traffic over TURN, please have your Collaborate administrator open a support case:
