Blackboard Learn SaaS Notification - Postgres Database Upgrade

As part of our continuing effort to bring you the most robust and stable environment we can provide, Blackboard Learn SaaS customers will undergo a mandatory database upgrade. This maintenance is related to Amazon Web Services (AWS) notification to Blackboard that they will begin the end of life (EOL) for the current database version. We are working closely with AWS to make this process as efficient as possible and will follow a phased approach to limit downtime interruptions. Maintenance downtime will average 4 hours.

Please be aware of the following key dates:

- Test database instances will be upgraded after April 27, 2021.

- Staging database instances will be scheduled within a downtime window that is appropriate for each client.  The Staging environments can be scheduled anytime after May 1, 2021.

- Production database instances will be scheduled within a downtime window that is appropriate for each client.  The Production environments can be scheduled anytime after May 17, 2021.

Learn Saas environments provisioned after April 26, 2021 will not need this maintenance.  Our goal is to complete all database upgrades by November 30, 2021. 

Blackboard Support Team has begun reaching out to clients to schedule these upgrades.  Clients who would like to proactively schedule an upgrade for their environments can submit a case within Behind the Blackboard including a subject that reads "Postgres Upgrade Request for <ENVIRONMENT>".  Please be sure to include within the case three potential dates for the upgrade and a Support representative will contact you to confirm your actual date and time.
